Morocco Travel Guide

What to pack for a multi-region Morocco trip

Will your journey include Marrakech, the Atlantic coast, an Atlas outing or a Sahara route? Packing for one city is different from preparing for several regions. Use your actual stops, activities and travel dates to build a small, adaptable kit rather than relying on a single generic list.

Start with your route and dates

List the places where you will sleep, the excursions you plan and the kind of walking involved. The Moroccan National Tourist Office's climate overview distinguishes coastal, inland, mountain and desert conditions. Check the forecast for each stop close to departure; a forecast for Marrakech cannot stand in for a mountain or desert stop. Our region-by-region timing guide can help you make that route decision first.

Pack layers for different settings

Choose clothing you can adjust as conditions change rather than assuming one outfit will work everywhere. For city visits, consider comfortable walking clothes and shoes suited to the surfaces you expect to cover. For a coastal stay, plan for the conditions forecast at that destination. A mountain outing may call for a different layer and footwear choice from a city walk; ask the excursion operator about the route and any equipment before packing. A desert itinerary also depends on its exact stops and season, so check the published trip details instead of treating every desert trip alike.

Keep arrival and daily essentials accessible

Put the address of your first accommodation, transfer details and any travel documents you need during arrival somewhere you can reach without opening your main suitcase. Keep any medicines or personal essentials you may need during a long connection with you, subject to airline and border rules. If your journey involves several city changes, a smaller day bag can separate the items you need on the road from your main luggage.

Match your luggage to your transport plan

If you are taking trains or making your own station connections, consider what you can comfortably carry during the last part of each journey. If you request a private transfer, tell the team the number and size of your bags along with passengers and destinations; the team can then check arrangements for your particular journey. Do not assume a vehicle size or luggage allowance until it is agreed. Our private transport guide explains what to clarify before confirmation.

Check the activity, not just the destination name

An Atlas valley outing and a Toubkal trek involve different preparation. Likewise, an Essaouira day trip and an overnight stay change what you need to carry during the day. Ask about walking demands, accommodation changes and what is included before deciding on specialist equipment. Check airline baggage limits and current travel rules with the relevant providers; this guide does not replace those rules.

A short checklist before you close the bag

  • Check the forecast separately for each region on your route.
  • Confirm walking and equipment needs for any booked excursion.
  • Keep arrival address and journey details easy to access.
  • Tell transport providers about passengers and luggage before confirming.
  • Review your airline's baggage rules and your own essential items.
