Morocco Travel Guide

Fes to Marrakech or Marrakech to Fes via the Sahara?

Both published three-day routes link Fes and Marrakech through Merzouga. The best direction for you depends on the rest of your journey, not on choosing one city name over the other.

Match the direction to your travel plans

Use your confirmed arrival and departure cities as the starting point. If your next stay is in Marrakech, examine the Fes-to-Marrakech route; if you need to reach Fes, examine the reverse direction. Neither should be assumed to return to the starting city.

Read each day’s programme

A reversed direction does not mean you should infer every stop and overnight arrangement from the other tour. Read the programme for the exact route you choose. Confirm the hotel and camp proposals, the timing of any camel activity and whether meals or local visits are included.

Arrange the days on either side

Provide your first pickup address and final drop-off location. Ask how luggage travels and whether any special items need advance notice. Leave room for the last driving day when organising an onward flight: confirm the proposed arrival arrangements before committing to a tight connection.

Before you enquire

  • Correct starting and finishing cities.
  • Day-by-day itinerary for that direction.
  • Hotel, camp, meals and activity details.
  • Pickup, final drop-off and onward travel plans.
