How to plan ten days in Morocco without rushing every stop

Ten days give you more room than a one-week itinerary, but the extra days only help if they suit your flights and pace. Start with the cities where you arrive and depart. Then decide whether you want a published multi-city route, a slower stay with day trips, or a route through the Sahara. These are different plans, not interchangeable stops on one guaranteed tour.

Choose the route style before filling ten calendar days

Several cities and the Sahara: Our published seven-day Casablanca-to-Marrakech tour includes Chefchaouen, Fes, Merzouga and the Dades Valley. It is a busy, moving route. Use remaining days for time in Marrakech or another separately arranged stay; do not assume they are part of that tour.

Slower cities and coast: Spend more nights in fewer bases and consider an Essaouira day trip or overnight stay from Marrakech. Decide whether your luggage remains in one hotel or moves with you. North-focused trip: Tangier, Chefchaouen and Fes can anchor a different route, described in our northern Morocco guide. Check onward transport separately.

An illustrative ten-day Casablanca-to-Marrakech outline

The first seven days below follow the numbered itinerary of our published tour. Days 8–10 are optional planning ideas, not an advertised ten-day package. Confirm your flight times, accommodation and availability before arranging any extension.

  1. Day 1: Casablanca pickup and travel to Chefchaouen; the published tour places the first overnight there.
  2. Day 2: Time to explore Chefchaouen independently or with a local guide, as described by the tour.
  3. Day 3: Continue via Volubilis and Meknes to Fes; the published itinerary places the third night in Fes.
  4. Day 4: Time to explore Fes independently or with a local guide.
  5. Day 5: Travel through Ifrane and Midelt to Merzouga; the published plan describes a camel ride and desert-camp overnight.
  6. Day 6: Continue via Tinghir and the Todgha Gorges to the Dades Valley, with the published overnight near Boumalne Dades.
  7. Day 7: Travel via Ouarzazate and Ait Ben Haddou to Marrakech, where the published tour ends.
  8. Day 8, optional: Keep a full day in Marrakech for a city visit or free time; arrange accommodation and any guide separately.
  9. Day 9, optional: Either spend another day in Marrakech or ask about the existing Essaouira excursion from Marrakech. It is a separate activity, not included in the seven-day tour.
  10. Day 10, optional: Plan your departure around your actual airport and flight. If leaving from another city, arrange that transfer separately rather than assuming it fits on the last day.

Choose where the three extra days belong

Before adding stops, mark Days 1?7 as the published tour and put Days 8?10 in a separate column. For each extra day, decide whether it is a stay, an excursion or an onward journey. This prevents a departure transfer from quietly consuming a sightseeing day.

  • More time in Marrakech: Keep the same base and choose a city visit or free time without changing accommodation again.
  • Coast instead of another city: Compare an Essaouira day trip with an overnight stay; decide where your luggage and return journey fit.
  • Different departure airport: Write the final airport and flight date beside the last overnight city. Request a separate intercity transport quote if they do not match.

These are planning choices, not additions included in the seven-day tour. Ask for the complete proposed route before committing to flights or extra stays.

When the same-airport return changes the plan

A Casablanca arrival and Marrakech departure suit the published route's direction. If both flights use Casablanca, allow for the return journey after Marrakech. If you arrive in Marrakech, reversing the published sequence is a different itinerary that needs confirmation. Our one-week guide explains the underlying seven-day route; this page focuses on how to use three additional days without inventing tour inclusions.

What to decide before reserving the extra days

  • Which nights belong to a published tour and which stays you must book separately.
  • Whether you want another city, a coastal outing, or simply time without another transfer.
  • Where your bags will be during a day trip or a change of accommodation.
  • How much time you want for visits after days of moving between cities.
  • Whether your departure airport creates an additional final journey.

Ask for a written proposal showing each day, pickup and drop-off cities, accommodation arrangements where applicable and the final price before confirming any custom extension.

Frequently asked planning questions

Can the seven-day tour become a ten-day tour? A custom extension may be discussed, but the extra days above are illustrative until the team confirms a route and availability. Is a Sahara journey essential? No. If you prefer fewer long travel days, a city-and-coast plan may suit you better. Should I book flights before the route? Check the route direction and departure city first, then confirm flight and transfer arrangements together.
