1. Verify entry rules for your own passport
Start with the Moroccan National Tourist Office's travel formalities page and your government's current advice. Visa or authorization requirements depend on nationality and circumstances, so do not rely on a forum answer written for another passport. Check passport validity, any required authorization and how official applications are submitted before buying a non-refundable arrangement. Recheck close to departure because rules can change.
2. Choose the route shape before booking every night
Write down your arrival airport, departure airport, total nights and one or two main interests. A trip centered on Marrakech and day outings differs from a multi-city itinerary through Fes or the coast. Our one-week guide and ten-day guide show how route length changes the decision. Count the days spent changing cities, not just the number of destination names.
If you are uncertain which region to choose, the cities, coast and mountains guide compares the experience each setting offers without assuming every visitor needs a desert journey.
3. Plan the first night from the exact address
Write down the first accommodation's full address and contact method. Then check the journey from your arrival terminal or station to that property, including any last walking leg. For Casablanca Mohammed V Airport, our airport transport comparison explains the train, taxi and pre-arranged pickup decision by final address. For Marrakech, the airport arrival guide covers the details needed for a private pickup. Do not assume a quote request confirms a booking.
4. Check payment and budget questions by provider
The Moroccan National Tourist Office identifies the dirham as the local currency and discusses cash and card use in its practical information. Acceptance differs by provider. Ask your bank about overseas fees and each accommodation, transport or activity provider about its own payment method and timing. Our cash-and-card guide gives a service-by-service worksheet instead of an invented daily budget.
5. Match the route to the season
Morocco's coast, inland cities, mountains and desert do not share one set of conditions. The official climate guide explains these regional differences. Use our season-by-region planning guide to decide which parts of your route need a fresh weather check, then consult current forecasts close to travel. Do not assume one packing list suits every region.
6. Confirm transport and activity details separately
Compare the entire journey between addresses, not just the train or road leg between cities. Check current rail services with ONCF and confirm any bus, taxi or private transfer with its actual provider. A guided excursion, transport-only journey and independently planned visit have different inclusions. Our transport comparison guide provides questions to ask without declaring one mode best for every traveler.
One-page departure checklist
- Current passport, visa or authorization guidance checked for your nationality.
- Arrival airport, first-night address and contact method saved.
- Departure airport and final overnight city checked against each other.
- Core route and travel days marked on a calendar.
- Payment methods and written terms confirmed with each booked provider.
- Weather and packing reviewed for the actual regions and dates.
- Transport and activities separated into confirmed bookings and open questions.
What can wait until you arrive?
You do not need to reserve every meal or minute of sightseeing. Keep some space for weather, energy and a place you discover during the trip. Keep the first-night journey and any time-sensitive long-distance connection clearer than the flexible parts. For a current safety or legal question, use your own government's official travel advice rather than relying on this checklist.
